New Extreme Sports Footage

New high definition imagery is available of the following extreme sports events:

British Car Jumping Championships (2011)

In this event the brave (or possibly mad) banger car drivers accelerate their cars over a ramp in an attempt to fly over a line of old junkers and land safely on the opposite side. It's the drivers that fall from the sky and crash into the heap of old wrecks in spectacular fashion that seem to get the biggest round of applause.

12 Hour Lawnmower Races (2011)

In this 12 hour race you see three different classes of lawn mowers racing. The overall trophy is awarded to the team completing the most laps during the race. Race conditions were perfect for the event, which pleased all the racers and the two thousand plus onlookers.

Antarctic Marathon (2011)

Thirty-six athletes from seventeen countries braved sub-zero temperatures and completed the 42.2 km race at the bottom of the world! Every competitor had to have their skin fully protected for this race. It started at the arctic base camp of the Union Glacier, in the southern Ellsworth mountains. Competitors had to complete one and a half laps of the course and were able to rehydrate themselves with hot drinks and snacks at one of five aid stations.

For more information on any of these clips contact either Joe at jholub@conus.com or Chris at cbridson@conus.com.

www.conus.com

New Extreme Sports And Festivals Footage!

Here are some highlights to new additions to the Extreme Sports and Festivals collection of the CONUS Archive:

*12 Hour Lawn Mower Race (2009)

*The Chaps Olympics (2009
For those of you who have ever wondered what happened to proper gentleman, please welcome a group of sophisticated people called “The Chaps”. These noble cads of refinement are a dying breed who wear horn-rimmed spectacles, listen to music on the wireless, wear smoking jackets, cravats, bow ties and hats as well as giving tips on moustache growing and getting a proper shine on leather shoes. The whole concept of their games is to pay tribute to a time gone by and make a stand against vulgarity, to celebrate the “gentleman’ and the “dandy’.

*Dragon Boat Festival (2009)
The Bewl Water Dragon Boat Festival is the largest event of its type in Europe and this year 100 teams competed over the weekend with an estimated 10,000 spectators watching.

*Dangerous Extreme Ironing in South Africa (2009)
Extreme Ironing is an outdoor activity that combines the excitement of an extreme sport with the satisfaction of a freshly ironed shirt. Two people from Cape Town in South Africa decided to take “Extreme Ironing” one step further by adding real danger. They climbed up a cliff with an ironing board and iron and performed some tricky maneuvers.

*British Oyster Opening Championships (2009)

*British Pedal Car Grand Prix (2009)
Forget regular Motorsport, there is something far more environmentally friendly and just about as exciting as the British Formula One Grand Prix. New Milton in Hampshire hosted The British Pedal Car Grand Prix on Sunday. A Pedal Car is an HPV (Human Powered Vehicle) with four wheels - most HPV’s have only two or three. Cars are generally designed and built by some or all of the people in the racing teams.

*World Downhill Skateboard and Street Luge (2009)

*Sumo Suit Athletics World Championship (2009)
The premise of the wacky Championships were pretty simple – all the athletes were to participant wearing bulky and cumbersome rubber sumo wrestling suits and they were to compete in a five discipline competition over an afternoon.

*The Great British Duck Race (2009)
It earned a place in the Guinness Book of Records after surpassing the 175,000 ducks competing in a similar event in China earlier this year.

*World Sand Sculpture Festival (2009)
Ten thousand tons of special sand has been shipped from the Netherlands and deposited in Brighton Marina, in South East England so that 60 artists from all over the world can recreate the wonders of Ancient Egypt.

*International Worthing Birdman Competition (2009)
The aviators are attempting to achieve mechanically-unaided flight over Saturday and Sunday. The competition was moved to Worthing in 2008 after Bognor pier was shortened by 80ft (24m), making it unsafe for fliers.

For more information on any of these clips contact either Joe at jholub@conus.com or Chris at cbridson@conus.com, today! www.conus.com
